Basic Yoga Poses for Beginners

1. Mountain Pose (Tadasana):

  • Stand tall with your feet together or hip-width apart.

2. Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana):

  • Start on your hands and knees.
  • Spread your fingers wide and ground your palms.

  • Press your heels towards the ground.

3. Warrior II Pose (Virabhadrasana II):

  • Step your right foot back about 4 feet and turn it 90 degrees to the right.
  • Extend your arms out to the sides, parallel to the ground.
  • Bend your right knee until it is directly above your right ankle.
  • Keep your left leg straight and your gaze focused forward.

4. Tree Pose (Vrksasana):

  • Stand tall with your feet together.
  • Place your right foot on your left thigh, balancing on one leg.
  • Press your palms together in front of your chest (Anjali Mudra).
  • Keep your gaze focused on a fixed point.

5. Child's Pose (Balasana):

  • Kneel on the floor with your big toes touching.
  • Sit back on your heels and lower your torso between your thighs.
  • Rest your forehead on the floor.
  • Extend your arms out in front of you or by your sides.

6. Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana):

  • Lie on your stomach with your legs extended back.
  • Place your palms underneath your shoulders.
  • Inhale and lift your chest, keeping your hips on the ground.
  • Keep your neck neutral and avoid straining.
